SIP Success at WowGao Wireless and Mobile Show

SIP Had Successful Participation at the Mobile Show Last Week

Many volunteers staffed the SIP booth and went around the show to spread the word. I must say they were efficient, wherever I went I was told SIP was already here and we have the Summit Card (good work, particularly Laura who has made me famous as "Uncle Max" at the show).

I think we all had fun, and some people won some prizes, and all volunteers had free lunch on Wednesday.

Our raffle for the book "Internet privacy" was won by Florence Liberski, Sales Manager, Airport Ramada Hotel, who collected the prize.

Michael Amaron from Vonage came to meet us on June 8, I am happy to announce that we have put together an Affinity program for their VOIP service.

Please check their service at:
http://www.vonage.ca/sipgroup/

There are four programs. For example:

The Vonage Basic 500 Plan provides the following for the unbeatable price of Canadian $19.99 a month:

* Feature rich phone line (Voicemail Plus, Caller ID with NameCall Waiting, Call Forwarding, 3-Way Calling, In-Network Calls)
* 500 outgoing minutes a month anytime to anywhere in North America
* Free phone adapter (no shipping charge)
* One month free

Please support SIP by supporting SIP´s affinity programs.

Thanks to all SIP’s volunteers, attendees, exhibitors, and organizers of WowGao's Wireless and Mobile show for their helpful contributions.

NEXT STEPS:

1. We need your participation at the InfoSecurity Show - June 20-21. Please let me know if you can do one or two shifts.

2. I hope you had a chance to reflect on the contacts you made at the Mobile show, please let me know your plan to follow up and how I can help.

3. My follow up list includes:

Institute Member
* HP Centre at Centennial College (I have already visited this center; it is a good venue for our networking meetings and workshop).

Speaker:
* IBM
* Email photos to speakers and event sponsorship for HP

Affiliate/Partnership
* TorWUG, attending their July 27 meeting.

Affinity program:
* EuroCom (desktop replacement notebook computers)
* Rogers
* Sensheiser (new generation of blue tooth headphones)

Summit Sponsor:

* Nortel
* Siemens
* Strategy Institute
* Williams
* Vocel
* Agile Communication (text messaging over the cell)
* Telus
* Talafone (Limousine guys)

4. I will be posting photos of the show soon, keep checking the home page.

Since we have spent considerable time in making these contacts, we should also follow-up sooner rather than later. Please send me your plan and let us discuss it by email and by phone. We discussed a post mortem meeting for this Thursday but have postponed it.

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to email (max@sipgroup.org) or phone me (416-891-4937).

Max Haroon

Time: 7:00 PM

Where: North York Memorial Hall (the Burgudy Room)
5110 Yonge St., North York, ON
Location Map

Info about the presentation "MS Office 2007: The Future is Here":

Microsoft Office 2007 has already proven itself to be the most radical redesign of Office since the toolbar. It will deliver massive amounts of value to end users, while creating even more value – and billable – for trainers, documenters, and developers. From the dramatically new user interface at the front end, to zipped, native XML open (!) file formats at the back end, live previews and integrated workflow via SharePoint in the middle, this isn't yet dad's office suite! There's so much more than can be described here. Get a jump on the new feel, features, and fun of Microsoft Office 2007, and test drive it for yourself!

Neman is the President of Industrial Strength Training, Consulting, and Development. He is a Microsoft Master Instructor and a Microsoft Office Specialist, certified at the Master Level for Office XP. Neman was the fourth person in Canada listed as such by Certiport, Microsoft’s certification authority, and in March 2006 received his Train the Trainer Level 2 Certificate from Peak Potentials. He has been independently training and consulting since 1997. He is a recognized authority in Word, Excel, Visio, Access, Crystal Reports, and automation of documentation and spreadsheets using Visual Basic for Applications. Since 2003, Neman has been the IS Applications and Training Specialist at the Law Society of Upper Canada.

Microsoft Office Open XML Formats Overview
Published: September 13, 2005

By default, documents created in the next release of Microsoft Office products will be based on new, XML-based file formats. Distinct from the binary-based file format that has been a mainstay of past Microsoft Office releases, the new Office XML Formats are compact, robust file formats that enable better data integration between documents and back-end systems. An open, royalty-free file format specification maximizes interoperability in a heterogeneous environment, and enables any technology provider to integrate Microsoft Office documents into their solutions.
The new Office XML Formats introduce a number of benefits not only for developers and the solutions they build, but also for individual users and organizations of all sizes.

Meet SIP at VON Canada 2006

SIP Group Meets SIP Protocol & mesh06 originators @ VON Canada

The Voice on the Net (VON) Canada 2006 Conference & Expo
April 3-5, 2006
at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre

mesh: Canada's Web 2.0 conference
May 15 & 16, 2006
at the Toronto MaRS Collaboration Centre

The Society of Internet Professionals' (SIP - sipgroup.org) participation in the spring VON expo in Toronto is not just about having a booth. It's about being part of the buzz that generates at the conference and around the Web 2.0.
Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is one of the leading protocols for VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), and VoIP is not only about voice on the Net but it’s also about all other multimedia elements such as video, instant messaging, online games, and even virtual reality.

We at SIP would like you to join us in Toronto April 3-5, 2006 at Voice on the Net Canada 2006, the premiere tradeshow for VoIP and the rest of the IP Communications industry. Now in its 3rd year in Canada, VON sheds a spotlight on Telecom-Internet convergence and offers a clear window into the key aspects of next-generation of IP communications: technology, markets, regulation, emerging concerns, and so on.

VoIP security issues on rise
By: Tim Wilson(31 Mar 2006)
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is currently all the rage in IT circles, with many vendors falling over themselves to provide this new alternative to traditional phone calls. However, questions surrounding the security of VoIP, and what customers can and should do about it, have risen along with talk of its promise.
They were a hot topic at last month’s VON (Voice on the Net) Mexico show in Mexico City. VON Canada will take place in Toronto April 3-5.
The first thing to realize is that VoIP is a protocol, not a technology...and only 3.5 to 4 million SIP phones. Also, an application like Skype is peer-to-peer, which limits exposure." A peer-to-peer network provides significant security, but obviously...
